Reusable Food Cloth Kit
-
Cut the fabric into your desired shape and size, or leave it as is for covering larger bowls and containers. Preheat your oven to the lowest setting (150°F–220°F).
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and lay the fabric flat on top. Sprinkle the wax shavings or chunks evenly over the fabric.
-
Put the baking sheet in the oven until the wax fully melts and soaks into the fabric, about 5 minutes.
-
Using heat-protective pot holders, remove the baking sheet from the oven. Before the wax begins to harden, use a brush to spread it evenly across the fabric, working quickly from the center outwards. If the wax hardens before you finish, return the baking sheet to the oven for 1–2 minutes to re-melt the wax, then finish spreading it evenly.
-
Using tongs, remove the cloth from the baking sheet, and hang it up to dry for at least 10 minutes. Once the wax has set, you can use the cloth for covering bowls and food containers or wrapping it directly around food! Do not use it with raw meat or fish. To wash your homemade food cloth, use cool water and mild soap, and let it air-dry before folding and storing.
